Michael Lee Moy, 59, passed away unexpectedly Sept. 27, 2007, in his residence.

Mike was born in Portsmouth and was the son of the late Stanley and Emma Moy. Raised in Cradock, his family started the first Chinese laundry and take-out that later became known as Moy’s Chinese American Restaurant on Airline Boulevard in Portsmouth. He was known throughout the community for his outgoing personality and love of family and friends.

An avid gardener, he was always happy to share the bounty of his harvest, which he often cooked for his friends. His Thanksgiving collards will be missed by many. Mike loved the Elizabeth River whether he was fishing, crabbing or sitting on his pier enjoying the solitude and peacefulness of the water.

Mike is survived by his wife and companion of 31 years, Nancy; his son, Todd Moy of Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Wendy Mastro of LaPlata, Md.; two brothers, Ray Moy of Portsmouth and Chris Moy of Virginia Beach; sister-in-law, Phyllis Moy; nieces, Ashley and Emma, all of Virginia Beach; and his grandchildren and fishing buddies, Emily and Casey Rollins. Mike is also survived by his numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who reside throughout Virginia, New York and California.

The family will receive friends at the Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 4 to 6 p.m. today. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
