SUFFOLK - Iva Marine Lapp, 64, died May 20, 2008, in her home. Iva was born Dec. 13, 1943, in Portsmouth, to the late James Colon and Marine Wilson Blackwelder. Besides her parents, Mrs. Lapp was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Lillian Olivia-Jean Mauro and a sister, Treva Lillian Umberger.

She was a strong supporter of the American Cancer Society, a member of the Red Hat Society and a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Suffolk.

She is survived by a daughter, Adrienne Iman and husband Bobby Gaskins of Suffolk; a son, Matthew Troy Carter; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Mauro and husband Rick and Lance Iman, all of Urbana, Ohio; a brother, James Edward Blackwelder Sr. and wife Till of Chesapeake; brother-in-law, Tommy Umberger of Chesapeake; several nieces and nephews; and two lifelong friends, Linda Booth and Till Blackwelder.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Faith Lutheran Church, Route 17, in Bennetts Creek, with Pastor Scott Benson officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society. Cremation Society of Virginia, Newport News, is assisting the family.
