George Angus Mutter , 72, of the 200 block of Kelly Drive, died Saturday, June 13, 1998, in a Portsmouth hospital.

A native of Norfolk County, Mr. Mutter had retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a fire department captain after 32 years and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Cradock United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men, Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge No. 178 and was past high priest of Cradock Royal Arch Chapter No. 72.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille ``Cookie'' Mutter ; two sons, Stephen L. Mutter and wife, Susan ``Bitsy,'' of Suffolk and Tracy W. Mutter and wife, Joy, of Chesapeake; a sister, Mary Elizabeth Allison of Portsmouth; six grandchildren, Brad Mutter , Marcie Held, Brandi Mutter , Rob Harrell, Kyle Mutter and Tyler Mutter ; and two great-grandchildren, Brad Mutter Jr. and Frances Held. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Corey Mutter .

A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Cradock United Methodist Church by the Rev. Michael Robbins. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will be at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the general fund of Cradock United Methodist Church.
