Mildred L. Harris, CHS-42, mother of Rev. David “Buddy” Harris, CHS-61 and CHS alumnus John Harris.

Portsmouth - Mildred Lynette Parker Harris, 90, passed away Tuesday, May 31, 2016. She was born in Gates County, NC, to the late John and Nola Parker. She was a lifetime member of Highland Baptist Church and Western Branch Baptist Church and active in the Gleaners Sunday School class. She enjoyed activities with her family and friends such as gardening, traveling, fishing, and dancing, and particularly relished her time at the Outer Banks. She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Mimi (Mildred) is survived by her loving husband of 73 years, Ara B. Harris, and two sons, Rev. David Harris and wife Elizabeth, and John Harris and wife Denise, all of Portsmouth. Granddaughter Christina Davis and husband Dr. Michael, and their daughters Tristyn and Evyn, live in Urbandale, IA. Granddaughter Chandra Snyder, Esq., and husband Martin reside in Chesapeake. Granddaughter Aimee Bond and husband (William) Kevin of Portsmouth and their sons Kevin and Daniel call Portsmouth home.

The family wishes to express a special thank you to Maryview Medical Center for their personal love and care. She was known to them and everyone as a sweet and loving lady.

A funeral service will be held at 1 P.M. Friday, June 3, at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, by the Rev. David Harris. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

She was very blessed to have family members and friends that dearly loved her. We will miss her greatly and look forward to seeing her again.
