Class of 1940

 

 

Chesapeake- James Clarence Oliver Jr., 94, surrounded by his loving family, went to be with the Lord and his loving wife Selma Stillman Oliver on January 14, 2017.

 

Jimmy was a graduate of Cradock High School. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II, graduated from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Apprenticeship and served 40 years in the shipyard as a marine engineer. He is preceded in death by his parents James Clarence Oliver Sr. and Mary Stewart Oliver.

 

Jimmy is survived by his daughter Joni Jackson and husband Steve; two grandsons; James M. Jackson and Paul Z. Jackson; also, his two loving “grandpups,” Bella and Brody, to which he spent many hours with them every day.

 

A graveside service will be held at 1 P.M. Wednesday, January 18, at Olive Branch Cemetery with Pastor Joey Covey presiding. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel is handling arrangements.
