  Portsmouth - Alice Lane Underwood, 68, passed away on, Friday, December 23, 2016.

A native of Portsmouth, she was predeceased by her parents, Durwood and Lora Lane; son, Alan Michael Underwood; and sister, Jane Gray. Alice attended and graduated from Cradock High School.

She was the best mother, grandmother, and listener. She will be greatly missed as she was the glue that held our family together. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 50 years, Jim Underwood; daughter, Deanna Bagwell; two sons, Gregory Underwood and Brad Parker Underwood and wife Tammy; brother, Timothy D. Lane and wife Margaret; and nine grandchildren, Joshua, Christian, Ashley, Chae, Alyssa, Annamarie, Elijah, Melanie and Amanda.

Her family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel on Thursday, Dec. 29, from 7-8:30 PM. A service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, Dec. 30, at 10 AM in the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Cedarwood Cemetery, Weldon, NC. Contributions in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
