Ernest “Ernie” Therman Hales, age 72 of Glendora, NJ passed away from natural causes in his home on Thursday, July 28, 2016.

He was born on November 4, 1943 in Norfolk, VA. He was the son of the late Therman Condary Hales and Lena Gertrude Hales (nee Morris). On July 6th, 1974, in Collingswood, NJ, he married the love of his life Hope J. Hales (nee Egbert). In 1962, he graduated from Cradock High School in Portsmouth, VA. He served in the United States Air Force stationed in London, England, during the Vietnam War Era between the years 1962 – 1968. He retired from Amtrak with over 40 years of service and enjoyed spending time with his beautiful wife in their home in Glendora, NJ in Camden County.

Ernie is survived by his wife Hope, his sister Shelby Peavler (nee Hales) of IL; nephews Alan Hales and Tony Hales; nieces Sharon Hales, Karen Hales, Terri Lynn Hales, Andrea Flemming, Centhia Bruder, and Teresa Johnson; and his great nephew, who he raised as a son, Alexander Egbert. Ernie was preceded in death by his brother A.T. Hales of Elizabeth City, NC (2005).

A Memorial Service will be held at Kingsway Baptist Church, 744 Kings Hwy, Mickleton, NJ 08056 on Friday, August 5th, 2016, at 7pm.
