SUMMERVILLE, S.C.-  William James "Billy" Burnell Jr., 63, formerly of Portsmouth and husband of Julie Thiele "Vicki" Burnell, died Sept. 1, 2006, at the Veterans Affairs Hospital, Charleston, S.C. Mr. Burnell was born Jan. 22, 1943, in Norfolk, son of William James Burnell Sr. and Mary Taylor Burnell of Summerville. He was a graduate of Cradock High School, Class of '62, and a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the Vietnam War. He was a steam plant operator with the Charleston Air Force Base and a member of of Boone Hill United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Men’s Club. Surviving in addition to his wife and parents are two daughters, Jennifer Burnell and Amie Burnell; a son, William Travis Burnell; a brother, Jim and Sonyia Taylor, all of Summerville; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and -nephews. A funeral will be held at 5 p.m. today at Boone Hill United Methodist Church, Summerville. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
