Jane Lane Slaughter died March 23, 1999, at Maryview Medical Center
after a courageous battle with many illnesses.

She was the daughter of Durwood Lane and wife, Toni, Lora Jacobs Shaffer
and her husband, Jesse. Jane was a native of Portsmouth. She was employed
by Hampton Roads Communication Inc. as office manager. She was a member
of the Alliance Church, Portsmouth. She was a devoted mother and
grandmother. She was a warm and caring person who will be sorely missed
by her many friends and family.

She is survived by David T. L. Slaughter; a daughter, Lori Baigis and
husband, Tom; a son, Douglas Gray and wife, Pam; two grandsons, Nick and
Sean; two granddaughters, Victoria and Olivia; a brother, Timothy Lane
and wife, Margaret; a sister, Alice Underwood and husband, Jimmy; and
many relatives and friends.

A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Greenlawn
Cemetery. There will be a private family visitation. The family will
receive family and friends at 4808 Clintwood Drive, Portsmouth. Loving
Funeral Home, Churchland, is handling arrangements. Donations may be
sent to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
