SUFFOLK - Lyle Oland "Capt. Lyle" Vick Jr., 58, of the 8700 block of Adams Drive, died Dec. 14, 2000, in his home after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was a native of Portsmouth and retired from Newport News Shipbuilding as a quality control supervisor. He was a member of Nansemond River Baptist Church, the Mariner's Club and was a master licensed captain.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia L. Vick; his parents, Lyle O. Vick Sr. and Audrey Parker Vick of Suffolk; a son, Lyle Thomas of Virginia Beach; a sister, Sherry Lee Swindell of Virginia Beach; and two grandchildren, Kyle Thomas Vick and Madison Caroline Vick.

A graveside service will be held Sunday at 2:35 p.m. in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens by the Rev. T.M. Frye. The family will be at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, today from 7 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
