CHESAPEAKE - Milton Johnson ``John'' Underwood, 60, of the 3900
block of Deep Run Drive, died May 25, 2002, in Florida. A native of
Portsmouth, he retired from Texaco Lubricants as a sales rep. He was
a member of Monumental United Methodist Church, past president of
the United Methodist Men, past president of the Adam's Class and was
an usher. He graduated from Cradock High School in 1959 and attended
Duke University on a football scholarship where he also was a member
of Kappa Alpha Order fraternity and graduated in 1963.
Survivors include his father, Milton P. Underwood of Portsmouth; his
wife, Martha Jean Underwood; two sons, Jay Underwood and wife Lea
and Scott Underwood and wife June, all of Jacksonville, Fla.; a
brother, James P.
Underwood and wife Alice of Chesapeake; stepdaughter, Laura Flecther
and husband Timothy of Portsmouth; stepson, Jason Burke and wife
Christina of Hillsboro, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Dalton and
Cole Underwood and Savanah Maness. He was predeceased by his mother,
Alice Rebecca Underwood.
A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Monumental United
Methodist Church, Portsmouth, by the Rev.
Michael Browder. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at Cedarwood
Cemetery, Weldon, N.C. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant
Funeral Home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The family suggests that
memorial donations be made to his church or the American Diabetes
Association.
