CHESAPEAKE - Jasper Carl "Russ" Russell, 71, of the 2800 block of Greenwood Road, died Oct. 4, 2008, in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center.
A native of Raleigh, N.C., he retired from Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a rigger with more than 28 years of service and was an Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Helwig Russell; three daughters, Deanna R. Anderson (Kevin) of Portsmouth, Dawnell R. Phillips (Wayne) of Chesapeake and Laurie S. Proffitt (Wayne) of Chesapeake; two sons, Jamie R. Russell and Ryan C. Russell (Elizabeth) of Chesapeake; one sister, Dorothy R. Hawkins (Robert) of Palm Beach, Fla.; and seven grandchildren, Victoria, Zachary, Brennan, Charlotte, James, Ava and Jack. A loving husband, father and grandfather, he will be in our hearts forever.
A funeral will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Tom Potter. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery.
