Charles Raymond Edwards, 62, died Sept. 28, 1998.

He was a supervisor in the carpenter shop of Norshipco for 43 years. He was a member of Surry Street Baptist Church and Berkley Masonic Lodge No. 167.

He is survived by his wife, Leslie Edwards; a daughter, Kimberly Edwards Smith of Portsmouth; a son, Charles Raymond Edwards Jr., also of Portsmouth; a stepdaughter, Tammy Griffin of San Antonio, Texas; two stepsons, Kevin Griffin of Florida and Dennis Busam of Louisville, Ky.; two sisters, Grace Fillmore of Anderson, Calif., and Estelle Fillmore of Citrus Heights, Calif.; a brother, Bobby Edwards of Chesapeake; and six grandchildren.

A funeral with Masonic rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in Loving Funeral Home Chapel Churchland by the Rev. Norman March. Interment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home and at his residence at other times. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
