Suffolk - Adelia Gift Dowdy, 79, passed away Saturday, July 11, 2015. She was born in Portsmouth to the late Charles and Charlotte Gift. She was a 1954 graduate of Cradock High School and attended Trinity United Methodist Church. She is predeceased by her husband, Edward Gibbon Dowdy; and a sister, Anna Hamill.
She is survived by her four daughters, Dale D. Henry and husband William, Cindy L. Dowdy, Jacque D. Jacques and Eva-Lea D. Marshall and husband John; two sons, Edward G. Dowdy, II and wife Abby and Charles L. Dowdy and wife Juanita; two sisters, Eileen Cotton and Charlotte Juanita Cotton and husband George; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held 3 P.M. Tuesday, July 14, at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel by the Rev. Drew Ensz. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 6 8 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Suffolk Humane Society at P.O.
