OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — Annette Temple Windley Alston, 75, of Oak Ridge, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at Mercy Hospice in Knoxville.
She was born Nov. 8, 1934, in Roper, N.C., the daughter of Lindley B. Windley and Etta Pearl Rice Windley.
She enjoyed singing and taught piano and ballet. In the 1950s, she entertained with the USO. Mrs. Alston also enjoyed oil painting. She was a member of First United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph John Alston, on June 14, 2007; and son-in-law, Mark Martin on June 2, 2005.
She is survived by her son, Joseph John Alston Jr., and wife, Deborah, of Knoxville; daughters, Susan Feliciano and husband, Manuel, of Heiskell, and Nancy Martin of Knoxville; brother, Lindley B. Windley Jr., and wife, Marion, of North Carolina; sister, Jane Spruill and husband, Earl, of Roanoke, Va.; seven grandchildren, Anita Bringle and husband, Josh, of Indianapolis, Ind., DeLena Feliciano, Jamie Conard and husband, Adam, Lindsey Martin of Knoxville, Jeffrey Alston and fiancée, Megan Douglas, and Shelby Johnson, all of Knoxville, and Sheena Mahabirsingh and husband, Anthony, of Madisonville; two great-grandchildren, Isaac Mahabirsingh and Allyson Alston.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Weatherford Mortuary.
The funeral will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stella Roberts officiating. The burial will follow at Oak Ridge Memorial Park.
The family asks that any memorials be in the form of contributions to the Stephens Ministry of First United Methodist Church, 1350 Oak Ridge Turnpike, Oak Ridge, TN 37830.
