PORTSMOUTH - Janet Oliver Spruill, 74, of the 400 block of Kay Road, went home to be with her Lord June 4, 2008. She was a native of Creswell, N.C. Mrs. Spruill was a faithful member of Bethany Baptist Church, Portsmouth, where she loved and served God until she joined West Park Church of Christ with her husband in 2007. Mrs. Spruill held several jobs while accompanying her husband during his military career and she retired from civil service while working with the Coast Guard and later from Covenant Christian Counseling Service.

Survivors include her husband, Eli D. Spruill; one daughter, Rhonda and husband Keith Kettenring of Anaheim, Calif.; one son, Mark and wife Teresa Spruill of Chesapeake; her mother, Louise Oliver Roach; four grandchildren, Nate and Jenna Kettenring, Jessica and Tucker Spruill; and a stepbrother, Linwood and wife Linda Shane and their two chil dren, Jenny and Christie. Mrs. Spruill was predeceased by her father, Mack Oliver; brother, William Elwood Oliver; and stepfather, Wesley Roach.

Family visitation will be held at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. and at Maitland Funeral Home, Creswell, N.C., Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral conducted by Mr. Keith Lewis will be held at Philippi Church of Christ in Creswell Sunday at 2 p.m. followed by a committal service at the Philippi Church of Christ Cemetery.
