SUFFOLK - Arthur Leonard Newcomb Jr. passed away in his home Jan. 23, 2006.

He was born Oct. 5, 1934, in Portsmouth. Mr. Newcomb was a graduate of Cradock High School and Virginia Tech. Art was a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed a fulfilling career at NASA as an electrical engineer. During his declining years, he especially enjoyed his Breakfast Bunch and the Computer Club.

Survivors include his wife, Charlene Frost Newcomb; a son, David Newcomb and wife Holly of Newport News; a daughter, Patti Bartnikowski and husband Alan of Yorktown; a sister, Karen Jeffers and husband Fred of Portsmouth; a stepson, Bruce Swanger and wife Kathy of Sacramento, Calif.; and six grandchildren, Danielle Bartnikowski, Victoria Bartnikowski, Megan Swanger, Ronny Swanger, Scott Swanger and Ashleigh Burgess. He was predeceased by his first wife, Frances Creamer Newcomb, the mother of his children, and by his parents, Arthur and Olivia Newcomb.

A memorial service will be led by Dr. Keith Curran at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in St. Andrew Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may by made to St. Andrew Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, is handling arrangements.
