Lewis Elwood Rary, 65, of the 4600 block of Wake Forest Road, died Nov. 7, 1998, in Suffolk.
A native of Salisbury, N.C., he was retired group superintendent at Public Works Department at Norfolk Naval Shipyard and a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of West Side Christian Church; Churchland Masonic Lodge No. 276; Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies; Khedive Temple; Worthy Patron of Fellowship Chapter No. 140 Order of the Eastern Star; past associate Grand Guardian, International Order of Job's Daughters; grand treasurer of Grand Council; associate guardian of Bethel No. 5, Portsmouth; and past associate guardian of Bethel No. 40 and 48.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Rohr Rary; daughter, Cynthia Rary Black of Portsmouth; two granddaughters, Christina Ree Black and Carey Frances Black, both of Portsmouth; sister, Linda R. Booth of Moyock, N.C.; two brothers, Thomas Harold Rary of Portsmouth and Donald Wayne Rary of Gaithersburg, Md.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Loving Funeral Home, Churchland, by the Rev. Kenneth W. Bryant. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. An Eastern Star service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home with a visitation to follow. Memorial contributions may be made to the Scholarship Fund of the Grand Guardian Council.
