Donald Lawson Wimberley, 84, passed away peacefully in his home on February 14, 2017. Don lived well, loved well, and was always helping others. Born in Portsmouth and raised in Cradock, he lived most of his life in Chesapeake. He loved to fish, play golf, and work in his workshop. Don was an active member of Jackson Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, took numerous mission trips in the US and abroad, and served on varied church committees. He loved and served his country as a Korean War era Army Veteran. He retired as Vice President of Smith and Welton department stores after beginning his career as an elevator operator in the downtown Norfolk location.

Don is survived by the love of his life and wife of 59 years, Kay Outlaw Wimberley; daughter, Donna Perone and her husband Vince of Saratoga Springs, New York; grandchildren Dr. Michael Perone of Richmond and Natalie Perone of Philadelphia; sister Shirley White of Suffolk; brothers Frank Wimberley of Salida, Colorado and Gary Wimberley of Virginia Beach. He was the son of the late Mary and Gordon Wimberley.
