Dorothy Jean Wagner-Benfield

Dorothy Jean Benfield, 85, passed away on Tuesday September 12, 2017. She was born in Elm City, NC to the late Talmadge Wagner and Ida Braswell Wagner Parker. Dorothy was a retired clerk at the Little Creek Commissary and a member of Temple Baptist Church, Chesapeake. She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Benfield, and two brothers, Morris T. Wagner and Phillip R. Wagner.

She is survived by a daughter, Cherryl B. Sullivan and her husband Keith W. Sullivan Jr.; a sister, Katherine “Kathy” Hanbury; two grandchildren, Robert Atwood III and Camryn Atwood, and a host of loving extended family and friends.

Jean graduated from Cradock High School in 1950.

A funeral service will be held 1 PM Saturday, September 16 in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel by Pastor Watson Morgan. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday evening 7 to 8:30 PM.
