PORTSMOUTH - Angels came today and took our brother, Eugene Ray Norris Sr., home. Ray was born Aug. 31, 1930, in Edenton, N.C. He was the son of the late Alethia Basnight Norris and Eugene Alfred Norris of Cradock.

Ray was a graduate of Cradock High School and a member of Providence Baptist Church in Shawboro, N.C. Ray was a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean War. He retired from Naval Regional Medical Center Portsmouth. Ray was a coach for the Deep Creek Little League for more than 20 years. He was preceded in death by his longtime companion, Loretta McManus.

He leaves a son, Eugene Ray Norris Jr.; brothers, Earl and wife Nancy and Danny and wife Linda; loving sister, Rose and husband Sonny; and many nieces and nephews. Ray is also survived by many friends at Bibby's, Lawrence Pharmacy, Jones's and Zino's.

A funeral will be conducted at noon Monday in Providence Baptist Church in Shawboro by the Rev. Charles Stevens. Burial will be in Moyock Cemetery. There will be a visitation Sunday from 7 until 8 p.m. at the Chesapeake Chapel of H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments, 1416 Cedar Road.
