SUFFOLK - Euree Odom "E.O." Cummings passed away April 5, 2011. Born May 1, 1929 in Dublin, Ga., he was the son of Euree and Linnie Odom Cummings. He was predeceased by his parents and his son, Michael Allen Cummings. E.O. is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dottie Gyoker Cummings; two daughters, Lynn Bartley of Portsmouth, and Jackie Vick of Newport News; a special friend, Liz Breeden of Newport News, and his sister, Betty C. Klise of Chesapeake. He was proud of his five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He graduated from Cradock High School and attended Randolph-Macon College. In 1953 he entered the Virginia State Police academy and began a career with that organization that spanned 38 years. He was a proud trooper and cherished the lifelong friendships of many fellow troopers. After retiring he worked part time with the Suffolk Sherriff's Department and enjoyed being in uniform again and associating with such "great guys." E.O. was a faithful member of Antioch Church in Windsor and was an adult Bible teacher there. He was active on several committees and looked forward to attending services each week. The family wishes to thank the many friends and neighbors who have provided comfort, assistance and prayers during E.O.'s long, hard battle. Each of you is loved and will be remembered forever for your many kindnesses. The family will receive friends at Parr Funeral Home & Crematory, 3515 Robs Drive, Suffolk, Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral will be held Sunday, April 10, at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Habecker and the Rev. Phil Godwin officiating. Entombment will follow at Nansemond Suffolk Cemetery with full state police honors. Following the service friends and family are invited to a reception at the fellowship hall of Providence United Methodist Church, 3105 Providence Road, Suffolk.
