Portsmouth - Norma Shumaker Jeannette, 85, passed away on Monday, November 18, 2013 in her residence. She was born on March 25, 1928 in Bluefield, West VA to the late, James and Lillian Shumaker; and enjoyed sewing, crocheting, music and playing the piano. Norma was a Past Guardian of Bethel 40, IOJD; and served as Grand Director of Music for the Grand Guardian Council of Virginia. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene C. "Geno" Jeannette. She has gone to be with Her Geno. Those left to cherish her memory are a daughter, Cathy J. Huband and husband Gary; a granddaughter, Jennifer Huband; a daughter, Amy J. Jeannette and husband Johnny Duke and their children, Suzie Hyatt and Jason Duke; and three great grandchildren, Troy, Grace and Shelby. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel on Wednesday, November 20, from 7 to 9 p.m. Entombment will be private in Albert G. Horton Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ambassador Club of Portsmouth Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 7368, Portsmouth, VA 23707.
