PORTSMOUTH - Ingvar Torsten Liljegren, 83, was escorted by the angels to his heavenly home April 23, 2006, at Harbour Pointe Medical Rehab Center in Norfolk. A native of Jonkoping, Sweden, he was a son of the late Gustav Emil Liljegren and the late Ruth Agnes Liljegren. He retired from Todd Electrical Co., Norfolk, and was a member of Cradock United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and received a Bronze Star. He was also predeceased by a brother, Sven E. Liljegren and a great-grandson, Joshua Alexander McGinnis.

Survivors include his wife, Matilda M. Liljegren; four daughters, Ruth L. Casteen and husband Tim of Chesapeake, Margaret L. Collins of Norfolk, Deborah L. Weatherford and husband Tom of Suffolk and Kathryn B. Creekmore and husband Charlie of Chesapeake; a son, John E. Liljegren and wife Joyce of Ruckersville, Va.; a sister, May L. Winters of Gainesville, Fla.; a brother, James G. Liljegren of Downer’s Grove, Ill.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. T.M. Frye. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and other times at the home of his daughter, Ruth Casteen. PORTSMOUTH - Matilda Mott Liljegren, 88, longtime resident of Cradock, and most recently residing at Dominion Village of Chesapeake, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009. Born Dec. 5, 1920, in Mount Mourne, N.C., to the late Henry and Rebecca Jane Mott, she was a member of Cradock United Methodist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Ingvar T. Liljegren; a sister, Mary M. Potts; and a great-grandson, Joshua A. McGinnis. She is survived by four daughters, Ruth L. Casteen and husband Tim, Margaret L. Collins, Deborah L. Weatherford and husband Tom, and Kathryn B. Creekmore and husband Charlie; a son, John E. Liljegren and wife Joyce; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. T.M. Frye. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
