PORTSMOUTH - Doris Barkley Robbins, 90, died March 20, 2009, in Bon Secours Maryview Medical Center's Intensive Care Unit, from complications from a stroke she recently suffered. She was born Oct. 21, 1918, in Harrisonburg, Va., the daughter of the late Forrest A. and Leona Barkley. She was the widow of Norman G. Robbins since his death in February 1981. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers, Forrest A. Barkley and Durwood H. Barkley. She was a 1936 graduate of Cradock High School. She worked a number of years at Shulman's Clothing Store before becoming a full-time homemaker. She was a lifelong member of Cradock United Methodist Church. Survivors include her son, M. Stephen Robbins of Portsmouth and a nephew, Fred A. Barkley of Greensboro, N.C. A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Cradock United Methodist Church by the Rev. Frances Craig. Friends may join the family at church one hour prior to the service and at a reception in the church social hall following the service. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Mount Sinai UMC Cemetery, Harrisonburg, by the Rev. Donald Burch, pastor of Vision of Hope UMC, Harrisonburg. Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth, is handling arrangements.
