RICHMOND - Cornelius E. "Corky" Hohmann, 78, widower of Peg Whiteman Hohmann after 50 years of marriage, retired principal with the Portsmouth City School Systems, died April 6, 2007.He is survived by his daughter, Marti Hohmann of Austin, Texas; son, Ed and his wife, Karyn Hohmann of Oakton, Va.; two grandchildren, Kelleigh Joy and Kyle Scott Hohmann; and a half brother, Marvin Goeke of Chicago.
Mr. Hohmann was a member of St. Michael's Episcopal Church. He received his B.A. in 1951 from the University of Richmond where he also played football for the University of Richmond Spiders, his M.Ed. in 1961 from the University of Virginia and his Certificate of Advanced Study from Old Dominion University in 1973. He was a U.S. Army veteran and president of the Portsmouth Host Lions Club from 1978 to 1979. He was a proud member of the WARTS club, and a 50-year member of Phi Beta Gamma.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Episcopal Church. Entombment will be at 3 p.m. in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, Suffolk. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the U of R Spider Club, Robbins Center, Richmond, VA 23173 or St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 8706 Quaker Lane, Bon Air, VA 23235.
