A disturbing rumor is being circulated about the Cradock Library.  Rumor has it that the Portsmouth City Library system may relocate the Cradock Library from it's current building on Afton Parkway to the Crime Prevention building in Afton Square.  If this is true,  this should cause everyone concern.  The Crime Prevention building is a much smaller building, thus greatly reducing our collection.  It asks the question where will Crime Prevention be located?  
 
 
The Cradock Library is the only library branch located in the southwest section of Portsmouth.  We would have no library south of the 264.  That is a great issue for all living south of 264 in Portsmouth!   The Cradock Library serves Cradock, Cavalier Manor, Brighton/Prentis Park, Truxton, Highland Biltmore, River Point, Loxley Place, Victory Park, Newton and Douglas Park.  That's approximate 1/3 of Portsmouth's Residents. 
 
Last year the Cradock Residents, Cradock Watch and Cradock Civic League went before City Council to fight for the Cradock Library (against closure and reduced hours.) We were told that it would not be closed. Please contact the Portsmouth City Council and Public Library and ask questions to see what is going on.

Cradock has greatly reduced operating hours in comparison with all the other Portsmouth Libraries.   Please make sure to take a moment and email the City Council or Call to make sure Portsmouth keeps it's promise. council@portsmouthva.gov   Thank you.
