PORTSMOUTH - Brenda Ramona Short, 58, a former longtime resident of Portsmouth, passed away Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009. Born Sept. 15, 1950, in Portsmouth, to the late Dalton and Virgie Farmer, Brenda loved to cook and worked for Cradock Luncheonette/ Johnson's Hot Dog for 14 years.

She is survived by her husband of 17 years, George W. Short; two sons, Melvin L. Phillips Jr. and Mark G. Sutton Jr.; two stepsons, George W. Short III and David E. Short; three sisters, Carolyn Furman, Linda Tripp and Sandra Brickhouse; two brothers, Beryle and Gene Farmer; and a grandson, Mason R. Benton.

A funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Nelson Fields. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
