Portsmouth - Bobby Gene Bracy, 70, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2012. He was born on May 4, 1942 in Conway, NC to the late Hobart and Mildred Bracy. Bobby attended Cradock High School, before proudly serving his country as a U.S. Marine. He went on to be part of the Elizabeth River Tunnel Commission; and later retired as a Police Officer for the VA Port Authority. After his retirement he became a bus driver for the City of Portsmouth Public Schools.
Bobby was very active in his community. He was a member and past president of the Fraternal Order Police - Hampton Roads Lodge #50. He was also a member of Fairview Heights Baptist Church, but attended many other Baptist churches in the area. But Bobby's real passion was the Boy Scouts of America. He was a Scoutmaster for Troop #222 & Troop #206; Charter Organizational Representative for Troop # 233 of Cradock; Order of the Arrow Lodge # 349 and so much more to the hundreds of scouts over the past 60 years. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Jimmy Bracy; and his first wife, Glenda Bracy.
He is survived by his loving wife, Peggy A. Bracy; a daughter, Carolyn LaLiberte and her husband Jerry; four sons, Darin G. Bracy and wife Chandra, Eric F. Bracy and wife Judy and Michael P. Bracy and wife Erin and Robert J. Anderson and his wife Teena; a sister, Phyllis Gregory and her husband Mark; twelve grandchildren, Jason and his wife Amie, Ryan, Brittany, Hunter, Ashlynne, Aftyn, Noah, Kirsten, Gavin, Erica, Tom and Christopher; and one great grandchild on the way.
A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2012 in Cradock Baptist Church, 96 Afton Pkwy., Portsmouth, 23702 by Rev. David Phillips and Rev. Bruce Morgan. The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel on Tuesday evening from 6 - 8 p.m. Burial will be private in Olive Branch Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in honor of Bobby Bracy to: Boy Scouts of America Troop #233, Cradock at any Bayport Credit Union.
