ALEXANDRIA - On Monday, June 11, 2007, Warren Carter Blow, 63, died peacefully at his Alexandria home. Born October 29, 1943, to the late Carrie Elizabeth Katherine (nee Dunkum) and Robert Vernon Blow. His life’s work and passion as an expert on paleontology and taxonomy of fossil crabs and mollusks led his career to the National Museum of Natural History of the Smithsonian Institution in 1967.

He was the brother of Grace Virginia Nelson of Richmond, Va., and uncle of Joseph Warren Robert Nelson, Susan Otelia Nelson, and great-uncle of David Joseph Nelson, Whitney Anne Ackridge, Gavin Alexander Emerson and Meghan Nicole Nelson. He is also survived by his loving friends from Cradock High School.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Barbara Badette and his brother, James Robert Blow. His generous soul, wonderful humor and loyalty to his friends will be missed most by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in North Bethesda United Methodist Church, 10100 Old Georgetown Road, Bethesda, MD 20814 with a gathering to follow. He will also be honored Saturday, June 23, at 3 p.m. in Cradock Methodist Church, 24 Channing Ave., Portsmouth, VA 23702.
