PORTSMOUTH - Thomas L Clifton Woody Sr., 59, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, L Nov. 19, 2000, in his home. He was predeceased by his parents, John Clifton Woody Sr. and Beulah Lewis Woody. Raised in Portsmouth, he was married to Jean W. Woody for 40 years.

He served his community for 40 years as a meat manager for Colonial Stores, Big Star and Food Lion, and for the last L 17 years he had the pleasure of training meat cutters for Food Lion. He attended Biltmore Baptist Church.

For the last 35 years, he was a member of the Minton Store Hunting Club in Woodland, N.C. Spending time with friends there provided him with great enjoyment. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is also survived by a brother, John Clifton Woody Jr. and his wife Carole; a sister, Sue Scholes and her husband Bob of Portsmouth; two sons, T. Clifton Woody II and his wife Sherry of Byron, Ga., and Lee L. Woody of Portsmouth; two daughters, L Tammy Woody-Smellie and her husband Dave and Tiffany L Woody Winckler and her husband Carl, all of Portsmouth; a foster daughter, Brenda Atkins of Lansing, Mich.; four grandsons, Thomas C. ``Trey'' Woody III, Seth C. Woody, Spencer D. L Woody and Brandon Winckler; and one granddaughter, May Lynne M. Smellie.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel, by the Rev. T.M. Frye. Burial will be in Meadow-H brook Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
