Evelyn Pickett Barnes of Shalimar, Fla., passed away on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007, at Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. She was 65 years old.


Evelyn was born Oct. 12, 1941, in Portsmouth, Va. She was a graduate of Craddock High School (1959), she moved to the Emerald Coast in 1974.


She is survived by her beloved companion, Ben Cothern; her children, Terrie (Brian), Jeff (Margery), Robert, Deena, Cheryl, Lorri (Frank), and Doug (Robyn); her grandchildren, Bethany, Austin, Joshua, Robyn, Aarron, Aspen Pickett, Ashley, Frankie, Ben, and Alexis; as well as numerous other relatives and friends.


Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, William and Edythe Pickett; and her sister, Shealor (Ted).


A celebration of life service will be held at McLaughlin Mortuary, 17 Chestnut Ave. S.E., Fort Walton Beach, FL, at 2 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 11. Visitation will be on Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m., and 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday. Her son, Rev. Jeff Barnes, is officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in memory of Evelyn. The family would like to express its appreciation to the numerous members of the health care community, and the women at the Fort Walton Beach Wellness Center, who took a special interest in caring for Evelyn.
