NORFOLK - Romie L. Williams was born Jan. 2, 1938, and died Sept. 10, 2008, in Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center, Norfolk.

He was the son of Robert Otha Williams and R. Ethel Lancaster Williams. He was preceded by his daughter, Sabrina Luce. She had two children: a son, Josh Luce and daughter, Misty Luce. Romie’s son, Michael H. Williams has two sons: Romie, serving in Iraq, and Thomas J. Williams of Williamsburg.

Romie played football at Cradock and upon graduation in 1955 went to work for C&P Telephone where he advanced into management. He married Daphne Morgan and Rita Konka. His companion for the last 25 years had been Shirely Werter. They lived at 100 E. Ocean View Ave. enjoying the view of the ocean/bay and the passing ships. Romie loved golf and played every day he was able.

Romie had three sisters, Rubylene Hargrove (deceased) and husband Willard, Geraldine Atkins and husband T. Frank, and Barbara Jean Ragsdale and husband Frank; also an extended loving family, Henry C. Nix (deceased), wife Emily, Eugene Buster Williams (deceased), wife Dean, James T. Moore, wife Elsie (deceased); one uncle, Kenneth Lassiter; an aunt, Lucille Parrish. Romie had a large family of cousins and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at 2 p.m. in Fairview Heights Baptist Church, Deep Creek Boulevard.
