VIRGINIA BEACH - Sidney Ethan Allen III of the 5100 block of Stratford Chase Drive passed away Jan. 31, 2010 at his residence. Pete, as family and friends knew him, was born in Washington, D.C., to the late Sidney Ethan Allen Jr. and Mary Lucille Stainback Nov. 16, 1936. He graduated from Cradock High School in Portsmouth where he played quarterback for the Admirals. After service in the Air Force, he returned to Hampton Roads and began his life's work in the automobile business. His last 17 years of service were at Performance Buick Pontiac in Chesapeake. Pete loved life and was committed to family, work and helping others. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, sports and collectibles. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Brenda J. Allen; their daughter and her husband, Jennifer and John Wassum of Norfolk; two daughters from a previous marriage, Dodie and husband Craig Steele of Onancock, Va., and their three children and grandson; Dana and husband Greg Sutter of Belle Haven, Va., and her son and three grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Barbara and husband Richard Goff of Norfolk and Dottie Jean and husband Jim Colsh of Middletown, Md.; as well as many nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home & Crematory, 1485 Kempsville Road, followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Colonial Grove Memorial Park (Liberty Garden), 3445 Princess Anne Road. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or Sentara Hospice, Chesapeake.
