NEWPORT NEWS - Roger G. Williams, 71, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.


Roger retired after 30 years of service with the U.S. Coast Guard, was a member of Deer Park Baptist Church for 28 years, and worked 14 years with Virginia RV. He was dedicated to his family and friends, and was well known for his lively sense of humor, his love for RVing, his carpentry skills, and his unwavering devotion to the Redskins.


He was preceded in death by his father, Roy A. Williams.


He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary Lou Williams; his mother, Mabel O. Williams; two sons, Todd Williams and wife, Jennifer, Brian Williams and wife, Tracey; one daughter, Tracey Williams and fiancE, Rod Walker; seven grandchildren, Brittany, Cassie, Candace, Brooke, Jake, Josh and Mollie; and one brother, Wayne R. Williams and wife, Ernestine.


The family would like to take this opportunity to thank the doctors and nurses who cared for Roger during his battle with cancer.


The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, at Peninsula Funeral Home. A funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Deer Park Baptist Church, with interment to follow in Peninsula Memorial Park.
