Mary Jo Chapman, 60, of Maupin Ave., was swept away on angels' wings into the the bosom of her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on Nov. 18, 1996.
A native of Gastonia, N.C., she was a member of Temple Baptist Church.
She was the devoted wife of John E. Chapman and dedicated mother of daughter Deborah Renee Thompson of Finksburg, Md., and son, John Scott Chapman of Richmond. Also surviving are her mother, Effie Wishon Reneau of Portsmouth; three brothers, Cecil Reneau and Jim Reneau, both of Portsmouth and Bob Reneau of Virginia Beach; and five grandchildren, Brandon, Wesley, Lauren Thompson, Megan and Kendall Chapman.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in Temple Baptist Church by the Rev. Allen Dooley. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Missionary Fund of Temple Baptist Church, 1322 N. George Washington Hwy., Chesapeake, Va. 23323.
