RURAL HALL - The Rev. George Robert "Uncle George" Presson, 75, went to be with his Lord and Savior Thursday evening Aug. 4, 2011 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. George was born Oct. 16, 1935 in Hopewell, Va., to the late Burton Thomas Presson Sr. and the late Mattie Jane Moore Presson. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stanleyville in Winston-Salem. George taught Vacation Bible School in different states for many years, during which he was lovingly known as Uncle George. He served as pastor for several churches after graduating from Piedmont Bible College in 1973. George retired from Shugart Enterprises in 2002. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by two brothers. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Madeline Presson of the home; two daughters, Cheryl L. Presson of Winston-Salem and Beth (Donald) P. Helton of Bostic, N.C.; one brother, Burton T. Presson of Zuni, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, at First Baptist Church of Stanleyville in Winston-Salem by the Rev. Eddie Honeycutt, Dr. Billy Martin and the Rev. Joe Harrah. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home in Rural Hall from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Aug. 6.
