Portsmouth-Shirley Rawls Meeker, 82, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 18, 2017. She was surrounded with family and friends. She was born in Bertie, County NC to the late Arthur and Sophia Mizelle Rawls. Shirley retired after 36 years with Bell Atlantic as an Engineering Clerk and was a member of Forward Church.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Perry Meeker; two sons, Albert W. Whitley and wife Tonya, Michael R. Whitley and partner Elizabeth; two step daughters, Vicki Hardin and husband Lewis, Amy Morrell and husband Charlie; a sister, Evy Lou “Nogie” Hughes; seven grandchildren, Courtney, Brittany, Grace, Amber and husband Chris, Jenny and husband Jon, Taylor and Morgan; five great grandchildren, Kamdyn, Bryce, Gracie, Connor and Kamryn; and a host of loving extended family and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM, Thursday, February 23 in Forward Church 3915 Turnpike Rd, Portsmouth by Pastor Brian Burgess. Burial will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel Wednesday evening 7 to 8:30 PM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Lupus Foundation.
