Robert Carey Lumber, 87, of Portsmouth, VA, passed away June 20, 2018.

 

He is survived by his sister, Vera Buchanan (Buck); and three daughters, Denise Campbell (Bruce), Terry Lumber and Pegi Seriani (Rich); his five grandchildren, Chris Poffenbarger (Carmen), Brooke Daugherty (Damon), James Poffenbarger, Deanna Griffin (Matt) and Carey Campbell. There are nine great-grandchildren, Maddie, Sydney, Ava, Bre, Taryn, Mia, Camden, Glori and Jace. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Vera Lumber, and his wife of 55 years, Sonya Lumber.

 

Robert was a native of Portsmouth and graduated from Cradock High School. He served his country in the United States Navy. He retired from Sears as a Store Manager after 38 years with the company.

 

He loved his family, friends and neighbors. He was an avid gardener with a beautiful yard. He had a friendly and generous spirit, loved collecting and telling jokes, listening to jazz and big band music, watching movies, and reading. He was a wonderful brother, father and Pop Pop who will be dearly missed.

 

A visitation will be held at noon followed by a celebration of his life at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2018, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home & Crematory, Indian River Chapel, 6568 Indian River Road, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or other Veterans Charity organization.
