NIMITZ (WV)— Robert L. Butler Jr., 82, of Nimitz, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at Athens following a sudden illness. Born March 13, 1926, in Huntington, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert L. Butler Sr. and Evelyn A. Coleman Butler. Mr. Butler was a graduate of Craddock High School in Portsmouth, Va. He was a graduate of Marshall University with a Pre-Medicine degree and graduated from the University of Auburn School of Pharmacy. Bob owned and operated Butler Pharmacy in Hinton for 26 years. He was a United States Army Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Sand Knob Methodist Church at Nimitz, the Hinton Masonic Lodge, and was a former member of the Hinton Rotary Club. Bob recently volunteered as pharmacist at Hinton Health Right. He enjoyed farming, gardening and especially playing Santa Claus during the Christmas season for many years. He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Butler. Survivors include his wife, Betty Maddy Butler; one son, Robert L. Butler III and wife Patricia of Powhatan, Va.; one daughter, Sharon Sullivan and husband John of Greensboro, N.C.; grandchildren, Daniel Butler and wife Christine of Richmond, Va., and Mederise Padilla and husband Ervin of Richmond, Va., and Spencer and Nathan Sullivan, both of Greensboro, N.C.; three great-grandchildren, Amber, Elena and Danielle Padilla, all of Richmond, Va.; sister-in-law, Mary Butler of North Carolina; aunt, Jean Carson of Auburn, Maine; nephew, Rick Butler and wife Teresa of North Carolina; and niece, Terri Kelley and husband Matthew of North Carolina. The body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date and announced at that time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bob’s memory may be made to Hinton Health Right. If flowers are preferred, the family asks that they be held until the service date is determined.
