VIRGINIA BEACH - Audrey Virginia Cherry Purser died Feb. 27, 2009, in Virginia Beach. Born Nov. 9, 1920, in Portsmouth, she was the daughter of the late Lester "Tennie" Cherry and Pearl Virginia Moseberth Cherry and wife of the late Jesse L. "Jay" Purser. She was a graduate of Cradock High School, Class of 1937 and Tidewater Community College. Prior to her marriage, she was active in the American Institute of Banking and engaged in a promising banking career with Citizen Trust Bank, Portsmouth. For 50 years, she was an active member of Kempsville Baptist Church and its Dorcas Bible Class.

 

Surviving are a son, Jay H. Purser and his wife Ann of Norfolk; a daughter, Jayne Purser Schlabach and her husband Bradley of Harrisonburg, Va.; one brother, Bruce R. Cherry and his wife Kay of Portsmouth; four grandchildren, Benjamin Schlabach and his wife Melanie, Kara Schlabach, Jessica Purser and her husband Zach Young and Bobby Purser; and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvin A. Cherry and Vincent T. Cherry.

 

 A graveside service will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake, with Dr. Kelly J. Burris officiating. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Holy Trinity Chapel of Westminster-Canterbury, Virginia Beach, with Chaplain Richard Keever officiating. The family will receive friends in Graham Funeral Home, Greenbrier Chapel, Sunday from 4 to 5:30 p.m.
