CHESAPEAKE - Adolphus Ray Spruill, 74, of the 1100 block of Woodland Terrace, went to be with the Lord April 13, 2007, at his residence. He was a native of Edenton, N.C., and was a retired school administrator for the City of Portsmouth.

He was predeceased by his parents, Harrison Richard Spruill and Clara Bennett Spruill. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Harrell Spruill; one daughter, Beth Spruill Nesbitt and husband Jim of Tampa, Fla.; and one grandson, Ian Conte of Tampa. He is also survived by two sisters, Ethel Spruill Vann of Suffolk and Dora Blake White of Miami, Fla. He was predeceased by three brothers, William E. Spruill, Augustus R. Spruill and Marvin Spruill and his sister, Virginia Spruill Arnett.

He was an active member of Cradock United Methodist Church and the Cradock Lions Club. He was also a Navy veteran.

A memorial service will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. in Cradock United Methodist Church by the Rev. Frances Craig. Burial will be Sunday at Beaver Hill Cemetery in Edenton at 4 p.m. The family will receive friends at the Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, Saturday from 3 to 4 p.m. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.snellingsfuneralhome.com.
