Portsmouth - Evelyn "Miss Byrd" Adamson, 79, of 520 North St., a native of Portsmouth, died Monday in a hospital.

Mrs. Adamson had retired from teaching in Norfolk County and Portsmouth public school after 65 years. She had taught history and government at Cradock High School for many years.

She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

Survivors include her husband, Edmund Barlow Adamson.

The gravesite service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Cedar Grove Cemetery by the Rev. H. Milton Cole Jr. Brennan-Morlino Funeral Home is in charge.

Evelyn Blanche Byrd was the daughter of Dr. Oscar Franklin Byrd, a dentist (d. 1942), and Annie Blanche Richards Byrd (d. 1960). Apparently, the 520 North Street address was the family home for many years. It is first listed as their home in the 1920 census and "Miss Byrd" was still living there at her death in 1984. The first time she appeared as Mrs. Adamson in the Cradock yearbooks is 1962. You may have known her as Miss Evelyn Byrd or Mrs. Adamson.
