Portsmouth – Leslie Daniel Bell Sr., 72, of 58 Gillis Road, retired principal and teacher of Portsmouth public schools, died Thursday at 1 p.m. in a hospital.

A native of South Hill, he lived here 40 years. He was the husband of Mrs. Elizabeth Williams Bell and a son of Daniel Baker and Mrs. Inez Ozlin Bell.

He was a member of Park View Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge 178, Cradock Royal Arch Chapter 72, and Portsmouth Scottish Rite Bodies.

Besides his widow, surviving are a daughter, Mrs. William Cody of Lancaster, Pa.; a son, Leslie D. Bell Jr. of Portsmouth; and five grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Snellings Funeral Home by the Rev. Rhodes M. Artz and the Rev. L. Wilbur Kersey. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, South Hill, at 3 p.m. Saturday.
